Semerita Muhindo (bag maker)

Semerita Muhindo

Semerita was born and raised in Western Uganda.  She is the mother of six wonderful children. Her husband sadly passed away earlier this year after a four year battle with cancer.  Semerita is a godly and hardworking woman. She has amazing joy despite very difficult circumstances. She loves to read the Word of God, to worship and to serve others.

She is a talented tailor who uses the work with her own hands to support her family. She loves to teach tailoring to others. She is a very industrious woman who raises pigs and chickens in order to make ends meet.  The sale of these African print bags provides Semerita with vital income to support and raise her children.

Aunty Allen Muzimya (maker of beaded jewelry)

Aunty Allen MuzimyaAunty Allen, born and raised in Western Uganda was tragically widowed in 2001 leaving her to raise their 5 children singlehandedly.  Uganda provides no support or financial support for widows and so their lives become extremely hard especially as the country has such a high rate of unemployment.  Life has been a struggle to say the least but her faith has sustained her.  She has a compassionate heart especially for the disadvantaged, so in addition to bringing up her own children she has struggled to also raised 7 orphans.  Life has not been easy and she uses the work of her hands, including the making of beaded jewelry to pay for the school fees for her children and keep food on the table.

As demand for her jewelry grows, Aunty Allen's dream is to train other widows in the art of jewelry making and other handicrafts so that they too can have a source of income to sustain their families.
